TAKE ACTION: Stop the Graham-Cassidy Bill!

CALL TODAY – Stop the Graham-Cassidy Bill!

posted 11/29/2017

Senate Republicans are back with a new attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act and drastically cut Medicaid.

The Graham-Cassidy proposal, sponsored by South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham and Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy, will have a devastating impact on Medicaid, especially in New York State, which will suffer billions of dollars in Medicaid funding cuts.

This bill is gaining momentum in the Senate, and it must be stopped.

The Graham-Cassidy bill, like all the other attempts to repeal the ACA, will disproportionately harm seniors and people with disabilities:

  • It puts per capita caps on Medicaid, which will result in devastating cuts in funding;
  • It will likely eliminate vital programs like CDPA and limit the ability of people to live in their homes instead of in institutions;
  • It eliminates the Medicaid expansion and marketplace subsidies and replaces them with an inadequate block grant;
  • It allows states to choose not to protect people with pre-existing conditions;

Please make the following phone calls:

1.) Call New York Senators Gillibrand and Schumer at 202-224-3121 and thank them for their pledge to vote “NO” on the Graham-Cassidy proposal and for recognizing that drastic cuts to Medicaid will harm millions of seniors and people with disabilities who need Medicaid to survive.

2.) Call your New York State Congress representative at 202-224-3121. You can click here to look up your Congress representative. Urge your representative to vote “NO” on this proposal. If they pledge to vote no, thank them for their support. The New York State representatives below have pledged they will vote against cutting Medicaid:

All Democratic Congress representatives
Dan Donovan (District 11)
John Katko (District 24)
Peter King (District 2)
Tom Reed (District 23)

3.) Call each of these New York State Republican Congress representatives at 202-224-3121. Tell them it is extremely important for the survival of seniors and people with disabilities in New York State that they vote “NO” to this proposal:

Chris Collins (District 27)
John Faso (District 19)
Elise Stefanik (District 21)
Claudia Tenney (District 22)
Lee Zeldin (District 1)

4.) Call these key Republican Senators from other states at 202-224-3121 and urge them to vote “NO” on the Graham-Cassidy proposal. These senators have indicated they may vote against cutting Medicaid:

Alaska:  Senator Murkowski
Arizona: Senator McCain
Kentucky: Senator Paul
Maine: Senator Collins

5.) Call these important Republican Senators from other states at 202-224-3121 and urge them to vote “NO” on the Graham-Cassidy proposal:

Arizona: Senator Flake
Ohio:  Senator Portman
Arkansas: Senators Cotton and Boozman
Colorado: Senator Gardner
Indiana: Senator Young
Iowa: Senators Grassley and Ernst
Kansas:  Senator Moran
North Carolina: Senator Tillis
North Dakota: Senator Hoeven
Tennessee: Senators Alexander and Corker

Voting on this bill is due on September 30.

Please call TODAY! Our advocacy stopped the AHCA, and together we can also stop this effort to destroy Medicaid.
