Federal RIF Threatens Essential Disability Protections, Services

Take Action Now.

VIA AAPD:

Recently, the Administration issued Reduction-in-Force (RIF) notices to about 4,100 federal employees across various agencies. These include the Department of Education, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Administration on Children and Families (ACF), and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), among others. This process will not only result in the layoff of thousands, but will also reduce the federal government’s capacity to deliver essential services.

The loss of staff in these offices results in real harm for disabled people. Without sufficient staffing in these critical agencies, offices, and programs, people with disabilities will not be able to:

Obtain appropriate accommodations in educational settings

Access community-based and school-based mental health support

Protect themselves against fair housing law violations and any other forms of ADA noncompliance

Receive early intervention services

And much more

These layoffs reverse decades of progress in disability rights and put the health, stability, and welfare of millions at risk.

Click the link below to tell the White House that you oppose these RIFs and demand that essential positions be restored immediately.
