We are a not-for-profit, non-residential advocacy center controlled by and serving persons with disabilities. Since its opening in 1980, LICIL has worked with thousands of Long Islanders with disabilities and their families and has also been a unique resource for other professionals who provide disability related services. Our Center’s mission is to promote empowerment through education, information and rallying behind issues that directly impact the daily lives of persons with disabilities. NYSILC’s Statewide Consumer Needs Assessment Survey is Out!
This survey is for all New Yorkers with disabilities. It is our most important tool to find out what needs are not currently being met around the state. Please consider completing the survey and sharing it with your peers in the disability community. Your answers will help us make sure that your needs are included in the upcoming State Plan for Independent Living.
Action Alert: Tell CMS You Oppose Medicaid Work Requirements
Last year, Congress directed the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to issue regulations for new work requirements for Medicaid as part of the budget bill H.R. 1, also known as the reconciliation bill.
On June 3, CMS released an Interim Final Rule for states to begin designing and building out their processes and systems to implement the work requirements on January 1, 2027.
This means that beginning January 1, 2027, individuals who receive Medicaid in most states will need to engage in 80 hours per month of paid work, education (at least 6 credit hours per semester), workforce training, volunteering, or a combination of those activities to maintain their Medicaid coverage.
